Founded by Rachel Mackay in 2017, Lift the Load is all about helping with the stuff that weighs you down – the things that keep you from your core business.

Rachel is a registered social worker who has skills and experience in management, IT, coaching, supervision, and front-line social work.  She is passionate about making sure that organisations and managers have the skills, knowledge and tools that they need to make the greatest difference possible.

How can we help you get back to focusing on what matters most to you?

Working with people takes passion, courage and determination.  In this day and age it also takes an enormous amount of paperwork, compliance and funding/contract applications.  You need to be able to tell people what you do, how well you do it and why they should support you to keep on doing it.  Without good resources and systems in place it's easy to begin to get lost beneath the admin load.

Your organisation focuses on helping the people.  We are here to help you with those things that drain your time and resources so you can get on with the really important stuff.

I founded Lift the Load in 2017 after several years managing non-profit organisations. In these roles I had found myself in a situation that will be familiar to many managers and business owners. Money was scarce so I decided I would just need to do everything myself. From designing brochures to data analysis to managing the finances to solving IT problems for my staff. There was always another learning curve for my already tired brain.
Thankfully I enjoy learning new skills and I really enjoy technology. My mantra over the last few years has been “There’s got to be a better way to do this”. And in many cases there was. The new systems and software that I put in place cut administration time and frustration significantly. Where it used to take me 10 hours to compile an accountability report for a funder I cut this time to 1-2 hours. Where a simple financial report took several hours of frustration to compile, we could print the information we needed at the click of a button.
At the same time I learned about outcomes and measurement, and we embarked on the journey of identifying and measuring the impact of our work on the lives of those we served. We developed a clear description of what we were trying to achieve and how we were going to get there, and this guided all our services going forward.
For me these things are a passion. For many others they are a chore and very often get put in the ‘too hard’ basket. And the reality is trying to do everything might save cash but it wastes an enormous amount of time and energy that could be better focused on your core business.
So Lift-the-Load is about helping you with the things that aren’t your passion or your skill so that you can get on with the things that are. We don’t have a prescriptive list of services, because we’d rather fit your box than ask you to fit ours.
